Paradox # 10 : If Love is Blind, why see hate ?

As we know, Love and Hate are opposite emotions. Daaji says – while love is blind with attraction, hate on the other hand is blind with repulsion. He gives an example of Laila and Majnu to illustrate how these emotions materialize.

If a face appears beautiful to you today – is it due to the beauty in the face or are you projecting that feeling ? May be it did not appear beautiful to you yesterday. Suddenly, your divine eye opened up and the face started looking beautiful to you . And as circumstances change, the same face might appear ugly to you tomorrow. For a third person, let’s say – your friend – the feelings about the person remain completely unchanged during this entire transformation that  you may be experiencing. So, attraction can alter our perceptions and hence love is a subjective experience, i.e. it happens only from the individual’s point of view.

On the other hand, Daaji points out, intellect is an analytical tool of the mind, which invariably exposes unappealing aspects, causing love to fade. When a deeper emotional and intellectual understanding develops between two people, then this kind of attraction has the potential to grow into mature love.

The real reason Love is blind because it does not judge. It is devoid of prejudice, sharply in contrast with hate, which thrives on judgement.

Hate is also an emotion that happens only from the individual’s point of view. It is grounded in the prejudices that we have been harboring in our hearts.

So, even though love and hate exist on a spectrum of emotions, the Intensity plays a crucial role in activating these. Emotions also energize our intentions and prejudices. Daaji says – we can purify our intentions and reset our predispositions through introspection, contemplation and meditative practices such as those offered by Heartfulness. He concludes by saying – Love, when nurtured without bias, can inspire us to achieve great and beautiful things, just as hate, when unchecked, can lad to destruction. So why see hate ?
